Angry Birds Fight! and Angry Birds Stella POP! Are Rovio's Newest Games

Angry Birds may be one of the biggest mobile game hits of recent times, but it is not exactly the most popular anymore. That title has been taken over by newer games such as Candy Crush Saga and Puzzle & Dragons.

Both these games employ match-three puzzle gameplay that has you matching three or more similar items in order to progress. It's simpler compared to the slinging of birds across a phone screen that Angry Birds is known for.

And it appears that Rovio seems to agree as well. First reported by fan site, Angry Birds Nest, the company has soft-launched two games - Angry Birds Stella POP! and Angry Birds Fight! (pictured above) in Canada and Thailand respectively, as a means of gauging user feedback prior to a full-fledged global launch.

Angry Birds Fight! has you matching birds to battle enemies quite similar to Puzzle & Dragons, while Angry Birds Stella POP! draws inspiration from Bubble Witch Saga and Bust-a-Move, having you pop bubbles to defeat the series' villainous pigs.

It marks yet another attempt from the Finnish company to have a game that matches the scale of success other free-to-play mobile titles have in recent times. Though it has recently expanded Angry Birds into non-gaming segments such as clothing and toys, it's struggled to keep up with seemingly nimbler competition in its core space - mobile games.

Rovio was most recently in the news for laying off 14 percent of its workforce, about 110 jobs, and shutting down a Finnish studio due to growth not being as positive as required.
