FreeCharge has partnered with ToneTag to introduce a new sound-based digital payments method. The payments app company announced on Monday that its users will now be able to make payments using sound waves. The feature is currently available on the FreeCharge app for Android.

The new sound payment feature is enabled through ToneTag. FreeCharge customers can find the new mode of payment under the 'Pay or Send' option. In addition to the previous modes of payment like On-The-Go-Pin and QR code scanning, users will now see the sound payment option.

After selecting the sound payment option, merchants will need to enter the transaction details on the platform they are using which will emit a sound signal to the customers' app. The customers' phones will need to be kept close to the merchants' device to be able to receive the sound. Once the app receives the signal, customers will see a Pay Now button, tapping on which will complete the payment process.

Sound payments on FreeCharge is currently acceptable at nearly 62 outlets of Trust Pharmacy, mall parkings, NICE toll plaza and several other colleges and office parkings associated as ToneTag merchants. As of now, the new feature seems to be rolling out for Android while iOS will likely receive it soon enough.
