Google App Gets Option to Edit and Share Screenshots in Latest Beta

The Google app has got a new feature in its latest beta update. Version 7.21 of the Google app on Android adds functionality that allows users to edit and share screenshots directly from the app, right after taking them. Once updated to the beta version, users can take a screenshot in the app, edit it by cropping or adding details, and share across apps right from a pop up window. The feature is available in all regions including India. We can expect it to roll out to the stable version of the Google app in the coming weeks.

If you are on the beta version of the Google app, the new feature can be found by going into Settings > Accounts and Settings > Edit and share screenshots in the Google app. Once it is activated, taking a screenshot will prompt a small preview from the bottom of the screen allowing you to perform certain actions including cropping, scribbling, doodling, and sharing the image. Of course the feature works only within the app, but will work across all parts of the app including Search, Feed, and even on web pages visited through Chrome Custom Tabs within the app.

If you haven't yet received the update on the Google app, you can become a part of the Android beta program here. The feature is said to be available on iOS as well.

The screenshot feature is similar to what Apple introduced with the Markup tool in iOS 11. This tool offers a preview of the screenshot for a few seconds; users can click on the preview to edit the image with similar tools, and also share the image with other apps. Once done, the screenshot can also be deleted right from the preview, or saved to Photos, as the user desires. Of course the big difference is that the iOS Markup feature works across all apps.
