Google May Let Developers A/B Test Play Store Listing Pages

Google will reportedly be introducing a new programme for app developers that would let them test the best method to popularise their apps on Google Play. The search giant is expected to announce the programme on its upcoming I/O developers conference, which kicks off on May 28.

The new programme, as reported by The Information (via The Next Web), will let app developers test different versions of app profile pages on Google Play to see which is the the best to attract more downloads.

Known as A/B testing, the programme will enable developers to change colour schemes, prices and other elements from their app pages in search for the most resonating combination. The programme is said to be most productive when targeting apps to global markets.

To be noted is that A/B testing for Google Play developers is already available in a limited form from third-party services such as StoreMaven and SplitMetrics, which navigates users to Web pages that appear to be identical the Google Play store. Data is then collected and sent to developers.

Google, in its I/O developers conference, might also talk on integration of web and mobile apps, app indexing and experimenting "progressive commitment models" before download or purchase.

The firm last month announced a new Google Play programme called Designed for Families that will allow developers to get an additional "family-friendly" rating for apps the whole family can enjoy together. The programme is said to launch in "several weeks".

In March, the firm additionally formed a special team to screen new apps for malware and sexually explicit material, and to strengthen its age-based rating system.
