  • Company introduced bookmark feature last year

Last year, Instagram introduced the bookmark feature that allows users to save posts for later viewing and easier reference, and now the company has announced that with its app's version 10.16 update, users can make collections out of these saved posts. Users can create collections out of their existing saved posts as well as send newly saved post directly to collections.

The version 10.16 update has already been made available on both Google Play as well as App Store. "You can create and name a new collection when you save a post, or you can add it to one you've already created. You can also create a collection out of your existing saved posts," the company said in its announcement post on its website. In order to use this feature in Instagram, users need to tap the plus icon on the right corner and give their collection a name. Then they can proceed on to select the posts that they want to add to the collection.

"You can find your collections on the saved posts tab on your profile. Just like all saved posts, your collections are private - only you can see them," the company said. Instagram says that since the introduction of the feature last year, nearly half of its total users (46 percent to be precise) have at least saved one post. Considering that this proportion doesn't seem to be an inspiring one, the company would be hoping that collections will help users organise their saved posts better and in turn make the most out of the feature altogether.

Notably, the company even rolled out version 10.17 update to the app right after the version 10.16 update. The version 10.17 update brings along bug fixes and improvements.

As it is with every other update pushed by parent company Facebook or Instagram these days, this update also appears to be inspired, this time from Pinterest. However, we seem to have moved past the phase where features used to be exclusive to applications. We will have to wait and see how the new addition is received by the users.
