After a brief, will they, won't they, late last month, Google has officially announced that Indian developers can now sell paid apps in the Google Play store.

Google made the announcement via the Android Developers Blog on Thursday:

Starting today, developers in India can sell paid applications, in-app products, and subscriptions in Google Play, with monthly payouts to their local bank accounts. They can take advantage of all of the tools offered by Google Play to monetize their products in the best way for their businesses, and they can target their products to the paid ecosystem of hundreds of millions of users in India and across the world.

The news will comes as a big boost to Android developers in the country. Until now the only way for India developers to monetize their apps was to use ads, which may not be a suitable option for every app. With the incentive to get paid for their work, here's hoping one would see better quality Android apps shipping from the country.
