Moving on from massacring green pigs by using catapults to launch birds on them, Finland-based mobile games developer Rovio has come up with something new. After having released the RPG version of Angry Birds called Angry Birds Epic, it has now released (as publisher Rovio Stars) a new game in collaboration with Raketspel, called Word Monsters. The free-to-play game, available on the iTunes App Store, combines monsters and word search to create a theme game which can also be timed.

According to Rovio, the game has to be completed within the time frame in the correct order to pass the level. Some of the themes that have been included are fruits, names, items in refrigerators and pop songs from the 80s, amongst others. Rovio says that users can compete with friends or challenge their own high scores to get their 'three gold stars' of fame for every theme.

Now Rovio explains the title 'Word Monsters' as 'fun little monsters that love words and cookies'. Users can create word monsters, earn coins to unlock more themes, use boosters in the event of getting stuck on a theme, or even freeze time, all for the price tag of a few cookies.

The game is available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Finnish, Swedish, Russian, and Brazilian Portuguese. As of now it is available only on the iOS platform with an Android version scheduled to make its arrival soon.

As far as the Finnish game maker is concerned, the timeline for the next two years looks a busy one. An upcoming game in the Angry Birds stable is Angry Birds Stella: Best Friends Forever, which is slated for a soft launch this Fall in Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
