Nikon India on Tuesday announced the launch of a new camera to its DSLR range, the D4S. The new full-frame DSLR has a 16.2-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor similar to the D3S. There is however, an interesting range of advancements on the new camera. Right from offering five AF area modes to full-HD (1920 x 1080 60p/50p) video recording, it is all packed into the D4S.

The Nikon D4S will be available from 6 March 2014, and for now Nikon has not given an India price to the DSLR. A suggested retail price of $6,500 has been given however, which translates to roughly Rs. 4,03,500.

Touted as a serious tool for professional photographers, the camera has single-point AF, dynamic-area AF, 3D-tracking, auto-area AF and group-area AF. According to Nikon, this helps ensure not just smooth and fast autofocusing, but also allows users to shoot at 11fps with AF and AE tracking.

In addition, the D4S features the Expeed 4 image-processing engine. The ISO range on the Nikon D4S is from 100-25,600. It has extended sensitivity for as low as ISO 50 to as high as ISO 409,600 in boost mode. In addition, it has an improved viewfinder, a redesigned grip, 1000BASE-T support for wired LAN communication, and a RAW S Small setting for post capture editing.

The Nikon D4S DSLR camera also features standard, neutral, vivid, monochrome, portrait, landscape scene modes. It comes with a 3.2-inch LCD screen, which has a 170-degree viewing angle. The complete list of specifications can be found here.

In addition Nikon also launched the beta version of its Capture NX-D software that will replace the current Capture NX 2 one. The free-for-download software is available beginning Tuesday. In addition to editing RAW images, it can be used to adjust JPEG and TIFF files too.

Nikon also announced that it will offer support to the current Capture NX 2 software till the final version of the NX-D is released.
