Highlights
  • Amazon, Sony, and Steam are refunding No Man's Sky
  • This is regardless of how long you've played it
  • Purchasers of digital copies for the PS4 and PC can avail of this

For many, No Man's Sky was nowhere close to what Hello Games founder Sean Murray promised it would be. More so with a massive Reddit post detailing missing features (which was deleted later) albeit archived on other sites such as the aptly named One Man's Lie.

Needless to say, many a buyer felt let down by the final product and it seems that Amazon US (which sells digital codes for the game), Sony (via the PS Store/PSN), and Steam concur. All of them are offering refunds on digital copies of the game regardless of how long it's been played.

"You can do this with practically anything on Steam so long as you are not abusing the system," posted user Nzyme32. "I assume they have some internal criteria for all this in coming to a decision as to whether you can get a refund when outside the normal refund criteria. I managed to get a refund on Volume & Homeworld Remastered (which I have since repurchased) despite being both over the 14 day criteria and over the 2 hours played criteria for both games."

Gamers on Reddit and NeoGAF have reported success with getting their money back.

"Just heard on a random twitch channel they're giving refund so i gave it a shot even though I tried the day it came out, AND HOLY S*** IT WORKED. I should mention I had 8 hours in the game, and a negative review," wrote whaaatcrazy on Reddit.

"I got my refund from PSN customer support a couple nights ago. 50+ hours of playtime," claimed NeoGAF user Kyoufu. "Not surprised to see Steam doing the same thing."

"Yeah, I think in the case of NMS it boils down to false advertising. I received a full refund from Amazon on one of my two copies (grandson still liked playing it, so we kept one)," stated Redditor unreqistered.

If you aren't enjoying the game as much as you expected you would and if you bought it digitally via Amazon US, Sony, or Steam now would be a good time to request for a refund. Considering that Sony is notoriously particular about its refund policy it highlights how poor the consumer reception has been to No Man's Sky.

We found No Man's Sky to be a repetitive, superficial experience. You can check out our full review here. Or you can listen to our podcast about the game via iTunes or Feedburner or just hit the play button below.
