If you are a fan of YouTube to MP3 conversion websites, there's bad news for you as they might not exist very long. Google is threatening to sue such sites if they don't stop operating. According to TorrentFreak, YouTube's legal department has been sending cease and desist letters to various YouTube to MP3 conversion and download websites.

The video sharing site has given the web-masters seven days to comply; else they may have to face legal consequences.

Youtube is one of the biggest resources of legal as well as illegal music and video today, and several websites have cropped up which allow users to extract MP3 audio from these videos and, clearly, Google does not like it. According to Google, any service that allows YouTube content to be downloaded is prohibited unless the content owner has allowed downloads.

One of such websites allowing Youtube to MP3 downloads is Youtube-MP3.org, which rakes in millions of visitors daily. In a letter to site owner Phillip, Associate Product Counsel at YouTube Harris Cohen has clearly stated that his website is violating YouTube terms and conditions and they should stop immediately. YouTube-MP3.org is not the only one getting the cease-and-desist letters; other websites like Music-Clips.net have also received them.

While such actions are normally anticipated from record labels, there is no word on what has prompted Google to do this.
