Asus ZenFone Selfie With 13-Megapixel Front and Rear Cameras Launched at Computex

Asus has launched the ZenFone Selfie smartphone at Computex 2015 in Taipei. Asus is no doubt trying to tap the selfie trend by officially announcing its selfie-focused smartphone - designed for selfie shot lovers.

The company already has a smartphone called the Asus ZenFone Zoom with 3x optical zoom said to be designed with the photographer in mind.

The Taiwanese company has not revealed availability and pricing details for the Asus ZenFone Selfie smartphone.

The highlight of the Asus ZenFone Selfie is it sports both 13-megapixel rear and front cameras with f/2.0 aperture, 28mm focal length, and dual-colour Real Tone flash. The rear camera features a laser autofocus module in addition. Asus's Zen UI packs few camera improvement tools such as low light mode, Selfie Panorama mode, backlight (HDR) mode, enhanced beautification mode, manual mode, and zero shutter lag.

The ZenFone Selfie runs company's brand new Asus ZenUI based on Google's Android 5.0 Lollipop. It is powered by a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 (1.7GHz quad-core and 1GHz quad-core) processor with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. Much like the ZenFone 2 smartphone, the ZenFone Selfie will also come in two variants featuring 2GB of RAM and 3GB of RAM, according to global Asus website. It comes with dual-SIM (Micro-SIM) support.

It features a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS LCD display offering pixel density of 403ppi. The display is powered by Asus TruVivid technology while also features Corning Gorilla Glass 4 for protection against scratches. The ZenFone Selfie also comes with a choice of 16GB or 32GB of inbuilt storage and supports expandable storage support via microSD card (up to 64GB). The handset features a 3000mAh battery.

Connectivity options on the handset include Bluetooth 4.0, GPRS/ EDGE, 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n/ac, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, and Micro-USB. It measures 156.5x77.2x10.8mm and weighs 170 grams.

It will be available in Pure White, Chic Pink, Aqua Blue, Glacier Gray, Sheer Gold, and Glamour Red colours. The handset packs accelerometer, e-compass, gyroscope, proximity, and ambient light sensor.

Apart from the new ZenFone Selfie smartphone, Asus also launched its next-generation ZenWatch 2 alongside new ZenPad tablets.
