Apple Premium Resellers (APRS) are offering consumers a chance to recycle their unwanted electronics and in exchange get discounts on the purchase of accessories. The new offer is part of a bigger Apple initiative for Earth Day - which is this Friday - in India and across the world.

The offer is available from APRs in Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Mumbai this week i.e. from Monday to Friday. Under the recycling program, users can get either Rs. 1,000 off or 50 percent discount (whichever is lower) on the purchase of any accessory. The offer means that consumers can bring their unwanted electronics for recycling for which they will get the available discount on third-party iPhone, iPad, and Mac accessories, as well as accessories made by Apple.

Apart from the recycling program, Apple last week also announced that it has teamed up with WWF (World Wildlife Fund) to raise awareness as well as money for wildlife conservation via in-app purchases. The Cupertino-based giant starting April 15 through April 24 will donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the purchases of the 27 participating apps to WWF. Some of the participating apps dubbed Apps for Earth by Apple include Angry Birds 2, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Dragon City, Cut the Rope: Magic, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, WWF Together, and more.

Additionally, Apple has launched a revamped Environment page talking about various initiatives including Renewable Energy Investments, Reuse & Recycling and Forestry Partnerships. The revamped page briefly also mentioned MacOS as the new name for OS X.

The revamped page also included the recently announced Liam, Apple's robotic system that can take apart junked iPhones and recycle the valuable parts including silver and tungsten. Apple last week also released its annual environment report, where it revealed it had recovered substantial amounts of gold and copper from its take-back initiatives in 2015. Apple recovered nearly $40 million worth of gold and and $6 million in copper.
