The smartphone market is booming at present with a wide range of brands offering an even wider variety. Adding to that long list of smartphone manufacturers is a new startup Kazam. The company is founded by two UK-based ex-HTC officials, Michael Coombes and James Atkins.

While Coombes was formerly the UK sales head for HTC, Atkins previously led HTC's marketing team in UK At Kazam, Coombes has taken the position of the CEO at Kazam while Atkins retains his marketing expertise in the post of the CMO.

The duo are confident about where they are headed. Coombes told CNET that "Kazam's dynamic structure and focus on local markets means we can react quickly to the ever-evolving and diverging needs of today's consumer." Kazam will focus on local markets starting with UK.

While it is tough for a new brand to enter a carriers driven market, in UK, there's a large demand for unlocked devices, which makes it probably a better bet for a new entrant like Kazam. Also, with the sales and marketing experience that the two have for the region, they likely understand the consumer demands better.

The company has not disclosed further details about the products that it would be offering except for the fact that they have "stunning design, robust hardware, and intuitive technology." We also don't know which operating system the smartphones would be based on. While Android does seem a probable choice, there are other emerging options including Firefox OS, Tizen, Ubuntu mobile OS, and Sailfish.

There are no details about who would be designing or engineering the product as well as what segment the devices would be targeting. However, a statement from the CEO does state that they aim to provide quality smartphones that are accessible to everyone.
