Display is one of the most important parts of a smartphone or tablet, and the technology behind these displays is developing by leaps and bounds.

LG has now rolled out a quad-HD smartphone display which the company claims is the world's first quad-HD AH-IPS LCD panel for smartphones. The latest LG display for smartphones features a 5.5-inch quad-HD panel with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels. At 538ppi (pixel per inch) it boasts the highest pixel density on a smartphone, the company claims.

Commenting on the launch, Dr. Byeong-koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display's IT and Mobile Development Group said, "LG Display, which pioneered the high resolution mobile market with introduction of the world's first full-HD smartphone panel in 2012, again opens new possibilities with the successful application of QHD technology. With this breakthrough, LG Display will continue to raise new standards for mobile resolution and lead the mobile display market."

The quad-HD panel for smartphones can show 4 times more pixels as compared to the current HD panels that boast 720x1280 pixels resolution, thereby reproducing more colours, improving contrast and vividness, LG said.

LG also mentions that the latest panel is only 1.21mm thick that makes it 12 percent thinner compared to the panel on the 5.2-inch display on company's latest flagship smartphone, the LG G2, which the company launched earlier this month. The bezel on the new LG display is just 1.2mm thick.
