  • Launch date has been confirmed for June 15.
  • The launch event is meant to be on a virtual space station.

OnePlus has taken to Chinese social network Weibo to release a invite of sorts for the China launch event of the OnePlus 3. The teaser image reveals that the OnePlus 3 will be launched on June 15.

This is a little different than the rumoured June 14 date. OnePlus has confirmed that the launch will happen on a virtual reality space station, and it gave away 30,000 units of the Loop VR headsets for a nominal amount for watching the event in VR. For Indians, it will give away these headsets for Rs. 1 on Amazon India from June 3 to June 7 to registered users. The number of units in stock of these headsets is unknown.

OnePlus teaser image (via Mobipicker) confirms that the China launch event will start at 10.00am CST (7.30am IST), and that it will hit the Chinese market the very next day. OnePlus smartphones have traditionally been sold via the invite system, however, this announcement indicates that the company could possibly ditch the unique model, and make the OnePlus 3 available freely. China will be the first market to get the OnePlus 3, but the company promises that other regions will follow soon.

The smartphone has passed through US and China certifications, and almost all the specification details of the OnePlus 3 have surfaced online. It is expected to sport a brand new design, sport a metal frame, and reinstate NFC. The display should be at 5.5-inch, and the smartphone is pegged to be powered by a Snapdragon 820 processor. The smartphone is expected to come in both 4GB and 6GB RAM variants. The base storage option of 16GB is expected to disappear, and be replaced by 32GB. There should be a 16-megapixel rear, and an 8-megapixel from sensor.

Lastly, it may run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based OxygenOS, and pack a 3000mAh or 3500mAh battery. The OnePlus 3 is also expected to support a new Dash Charge feature, the company's branding for fast charging.
