As anticipated, OnePlus' Dash Charge announcement is an April Fools' Day prank. The company has just unveiled Dash Energy – a drink "that can give humans a day's power." The Energy Drink, although a prank, will be available at the OnePlus Experience Store in Bengaluru, from 11am onwards, on April 1.
OnePlus shared a prank video launching its Dash Energy Drink as well, showing how a man, after drinking the energy drink, gets recharged completely. There's also a website link to further make the prank look legitimate, and just to appease the audience, OnePlus says that it will be handing out drinks at the Bangalore experience store on April 1. The website elaborates that the energy drink has an "Dash Energy Augmentation Component which is a neural performance enhancer that triggers an immediate increase in alertness, energy, and concentration levels’. At the end of the charade, the "Drink Dash Now" button takes you to Facebook page of OnePlus.
The site goes all out with the prank by publishing user feedback as well. A fictitious person named Bob says, “Before I discovered Dash Energy, I spent my days in front of the TV. Now, I'm training for the Olympics.”
For those unaware, Dash Charge is essentially OnePlus' fast charging technology that enables its latest smartphones to get a day’s power in just 30 minutes. The company did neat word play on the Dash Charge technology, to make this Dash Energy prank look like the real deal.
OnePlus has done similar April Fools' Day pranks in the past, like in 2015, it carried out an elaborate 'Game Changer' drone prank on all its fans.
