Qualcomm at its Snapdragon Tech Day in Singapore on Tuesday took the wraps off its brand new Snapdragon 630 and 660 mobile platforms. The company also showcased the Snapdragon 835 SoC which was unveiled at CES 2017 early this year.

There are now five smartphones that are powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC which include Samsung Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy S8+, Sony Xperia XZ Premium, Xiaomi Mi 6, and Sharp Aquos R. Two of these are in India, the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, unfortunately, they run the Samsung Exynos 8895 SoC in the country. Thus, we are yet to see a smartphone with the Qualcomm's latest flagship mobile SoC.

Talking to Gadgets 360, Larry Paulson, VP and President, Qualcomm India confirmed that there are few smartphones launching soon. "There are some smartphones with Snapdragon 835 set to launch in India but we don't want to steal the thunder of OEMs," Paulson said. He further added that Qualcomm's latest premium SoC, Snapdragon 835, was announced at CES 2017 in the beginning of this year.

The chipset brings a galore of advanced features like Gigabit-class LTE modem support with download speeds of up to 1Gbps supported, Qualcomm Spectra 180 Camera ISP for smooth optical zoom and fast autofocus, and Qualcomm Haven Security that supports full biometric suite. Apart from other advanced features like Quick Charge 4.0 that offers up to 5 hours of usage life in 5 minutes of charging.

After slight delay, the Snapdragon 835 finally made its debut in the Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, though as we said, the company brought Exynos versions to the Indian market. Contradicting rumours about no India launch, Xiaomi has confirmed to Gadgets 360 that the company is yet to take a decision on the availability of the Mi 6 flagship in India.

Going by past launches and the importance of the Indian market, Xiaomi can be expected to introduce the Mi 6 flagship with a Snapdragon 835 SoC in India at some point. Sony, however, can also be expected to launch the Snapdragon 835 based Xperia XZ Premium in India.
