Qualcomm is now reportedly testing its much talked-about Snapdragon 810 processor with the new Cat. 9 LTE modem support.

The new modem will increase the peak downloading speed from 300Mbps (in Cat. 6) to 450Mbps. The processor is said to make its debut in several flagship devices during 2015, a number of which might be showcased at the upcoming CES 2015 event in Las Vegas.

The report about Qualcomm's current Snapdragon 810 testing comes couple of weeks after the firm's announcement on December 11, stating that it will expand 'LTE capabilities in Snapdragon 810 to add Category 9 Carrier Aggregation.'

"Transitioning from Category 6 to Category 9 LTE-A connectivity will mean 1.5x faster peak download speeds, swift application response times, reliable connectivity and connections to the fastest networks," said Enrico Salvatori, Senior Vice President and President of Qualcomm Europe to Fudzilla.

The testing for Snapdragon 810 processor with Cat. 9 modem support is being done in the UK with the help of Huawei, which reportedly has the infrastructure support for the particular modem. The tests are also being done with EE carrier, which might be the first in the region to upgrade to this network.

The firm earlier this week also announced its fifth-generation LTE solution called the Gobi 9x45 modem, which also comes with a same download speed of 450Mbps but with a faster 100Mbps upload (50Mbps in Cat 9). This is also the company's "first announced Category 10 LTE cellular modem."

Meanwhile, there are also rumours about a new Samsung Exynos processor that will feature Cat. 10 LTE connectivity. A report from earlier this month indicates that the new Exynos chipset might ship with upcoming Samsung devices as early as next year, probably in the anticipated Galaxy S6 as well.
