The Sony Xperia J smartphone is now up for pre-orders with online retailer Flipkart listed at a price of Rs. 16,490. Availability details on the portal mention an "estimated release date" slated for the 5th week of October. Flipkart is also giving its pre-order customers an exclusive offer providing them with an e-Gift voucher worth Rs. 500.

The device, which previewed a week ahead of its launch, was officially announced alongside the Xperia V and Xperia T smartphones this year at the IFA trade fair in Berlin held in August. While the Xperia V and Xperia T smartphones are placed in the high-end segment, the Xperia T is categorised as a mid-range device.

The Xperia J is 9.2mm thick and has a 4-inch (854 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display with gorilla glass coating atop. It runs on Android 4.0 and is still due for a Jelly Bean upgrade. The device has a 5MP autofocus rear camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera.

On the inside, the device packs in a 1 GHz Qualcomm MSM7227A processor with 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage and 32GB of expandable memory with microSD. It comes with a 1,750 mAh battery. The connectivity features include Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth, DLNA and A-GPS.

Though the company had launched the device with Black, Gold, White and Pink colour options, users in India can choose from Black and White only as of now.
