While we are yet to hear any official word on the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 4's successor, the reports of a patent being filed by the company for a fingerprint recognition method do indicate the technology may just be used on the next flagship.

Until now, the fingerprint scanner technology has been seen as a high-end feature and was seen in devices such as the Apple iPhone 5s, Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One Max, Apple iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, and HTC One M9+. However, the feature went mainstream last year as many Indian handset brands such as iberry and Xolo also launched handsets with fingerprint sensors.
