Xiaomi is set to launch a new Redmi product on Thursday, with the company teasing a metal clad smartphone in a teaser image earlier in the week.

The Chinese firm has enjoyed success with its Redmi brand of low cost phones, and Thursday's launch is an important one as it is expected to bring unveil the next generation of the lineup. While the company has been uncharacteristically mum in the leadup to the day's events, there have been some rumours however.

Though the Redmi 4 is anticipated to launch, recent speculation indicates Xiaomi may have plans to showcase the Redmi Note 4 - a phone that was expected to launch at the end of last month. There's not much clarity on which of the two smartphones will launch, or if both will be unveiled. In the meanwhile, Xiaomi is said have a launch planned for the Mi Note 2 on September 2.

The Redmi 4 is tipped to come with a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera, offer 4G connectivity with VoLTE support, and be powered by a 4100mAh battery. It's said to be priced started CNY 699 (roughly Rs. 7,100).

As for the Redmi Note 4 that may just make an appearance on Thursday, the smartphone was previous rumoured to be run on a Snapdragon 652 SoC, but more recent reports point to a MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor. It's also said to sport a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) IPS display; 3GB of RAM, 32GB and 64GB inbuilt storage options, the same camera setup as the Redmi 4, and a 4000mAh battery.
