The last year has seen a lot of hype around Google's glasses aka Google Glass. Though the product is not available in the market yet, people seem to pretty excited to try it out. One testimonial of the same was seen on Tuesday evening when people on eBay were willing to shell out as much as $15,900 to get their hands on it.

A pair of Google Glasses was put on auction by a user called 'bla7kcat'. bla7kcat claimed to be one of the lucky consumers to get selected to purchase Glass under the "If I Had Glass" program. The user had put the glasses on auction on eBay sometime last week for $1,500 and people had started bidding for the product almost instantly.

There was also description stating that the user was selling a brand new unopened pair of Google's Project Glass glasses. It further went on to state the bla7kcat will be personally attending Google's Project Glass launch event, which will be taking place in either Los Angeles or New York sometime after February 27. It is at this event that bla7kcat would receive the product.

However, eBay has now removed the listing stating that the auction was a violation of its presale policy.

Google had started secretly building Google glasses more than three years ago. The technology progressed far enough for Google to announce "Project Glass" in April 2012. At that time, Google also showcased a live demo of the glasses. In the past one year, a few Google employees have been spotted wearing these glasses several times out in public, most famously Google co-founder Sergey Brin who's been wearing the glasses in almost all his public appearances over the past year. The Internet search giant has also organised several hack-a-thons in the past to encourage developers to produce apps for the platform.

Brin indicated on Wednesday that Google Glass eyewear will be available later in 2013 at for a cost 'significantly' less than $1,500 that the prototypes are being sold for.
