Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch sales disappointing: Report

Samsung may have been aggressively promoting its first wearable device, the Galaxy Gear, but a new report has revealed that the smartwatch's sales figures have not been eye-catching.

Business Korea in a report has claimed that Samsung has sold around 50,000 units of the Galaxy Gear since its launch at IFA in September, with the daily sales of the smartwatch not exceeding 800 to 900 units globally. The report also notes that the sales figures for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch have been below expectations of the company.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear smartwatch was initially unveiled with compatibility with only two devices, the Galaxy Note 3 phablet and Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet. While, Samsung soon extended compatibility of the Galaxy Gear smartwatch to the Galaxy Round, Galaxy S4, and Galaxy S3, however this didn't help boost the slow sales much, as per the report.

The Galaxy Gear smartwatch features a 1.63-inch (4.14 cm) OLED display. It can make calls (via a compatible smartphone), display messages and notifications, record videos and snap photos with its 1.9-megapixel camera. The battery life, a key challenge for most wearable devices, is said to be around 27 hours under Samsung's normal-use tests.

Recently, Samsung Electronics CEO, Kwon Oh Hyun at company's second analyst meeting in South Korea revealed that there is still room for improvement in the company's first wearable device, the Galaxy Gear, and also revealed that the company has not been 100 percent satisfied by the product.

Prior to this, a report had suggested that Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch received a lukewarm response.
