Retail giant Amazon is holding a press event on September 6 in Los Angeles, where it is expected to launch new version(s) of Kindle tablet and e-ink e-book readers. There aren't many details available right now, but folks at The Verge got hold of the first alleged promo shots of these new devices.

There are several discrepancies in these images, and also there is no way to confirm the authenticity of these images. So, take these with a pinch of salt.

The Verge notes that Amazon will be introducing an all-new Paperwhite backlit display in new generation e-ink Kindle e-book reader. Company might present the refreshed Kindle Touch, the popular e-reader from Amazon with a touch-interface, as an e-reader with "higher contrast, high resolution, integrated lighting, and with eight weeks of battery life".

The exact nature of Paperwhite backlit display is unclear right now, but it seems like an answer to the display used in Barnes and Noble's Nook Simple Touch with Glowlight.

On the other hand, rumour has it that Amazon might be announcing more than one version of next Kindle tablet. The Kindle Fire 2 is expected to feature a front-facing camera, which is also prominent in in one of leaked images.

The Verge also stated that the new Kindle Fire will come with a streamlined user interface.

The original Kindle Fire, which was released last year, is no longer on sale as Amazon announced that it has been sold out and dubbed it as its most successful product launch ever.
