Kid-safe tablets and smartphones are hitting the market more frequently, aimed at giving parents more control over how their children's mobile devices are used. Following the trend, Mitashi has launched the Sky Tab 2 tablet under its Skykidz portfolio.

Priced at Rs. 6,999, the Mitashi Sky Tab 2 is currently listed as 'out of stock' on the company's own e-shop website. However, the device is available at a discounted price of Rs. 5,899 via an e-commerce site.

The Mitashi Sky Tab 2 runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out-of-the-box and features a 7-inch display with a 1024x600 pixel resolution (as listed on the e-commerce site). The tablet is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor (unspecified) and is clubbed with 1GB of RAM. The firm also mentions that the tablet is especially made for kids who are above 2 years.

The Sky Tab 2 features 8GB of built-in storage that can be further expanded via microSD card (up to 32GB). A 2-megapixel rear and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera are present on the tablet, which is powered by a 3300mAh battery.

The Mitashi Sky Tab 2 comes with 27 preloaded kid-friendly applications, apart from a parental control feature. Parents can block certain websites, filter search for content on the web, and can even monitor the use of the tabet. The tablet is listed on Flipkart.

Adnan Chara, Vice President, Gaming, Toys & Telecom, Mitashi Edutainment said in a press statement about the launch, "Sky Tabs are a great learning resource for children nowadays, who are so comfortable with technology from a very tender age. It's loaded with a world of information at their fingertips. The Sky Tab 2 is India's first dual-core, dual camera Android Tab made just for kids. True to our name, we are sure that this will be loved by kids and trusted by parents."

During the CES 2014 event held earlier this year, Hollywood studio DreamWorks joined the kid-safe tablet trend, introducing its DreamTab. In January, educational solutions startup Metis Learning launched an Android 4.2-powered tablet dubbed Eddy targeting kids aged between 2 and 10 years as well as preloading educator-selected learning content.
