Apple released the much anticipated software update for its Apple TV (version 6.0) platform on Friday, bringing several new features like iTunes Radio, the ability to buy music via the iTunes Music Store, and 'AirPlay from iCloud'. However, it looks like Apple pulled the update soon after making it live, as a number of users reported that their devices were being bricked or rendered unusable.

It would appear that Apple has halted the update to figure out what went wrong and would perhaps push it at a later time after fixing the issues that plague it. Apple has not officially announced pulling the update, but users who did not download the 6.0 update earlier, are not seeing any available updates.

Interestingly, a number of users have also reported that they've been able to fix their Apple TVs by restoring its software through iTunes with the help of a computer, while others say the update has left their devices in an unrecoverable stage.

The Apple TV software update had been in beta for a while, and was rolled out two days after Apple publicly released iOS 7, its mobile operating system for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

The media player receives several new capabilities including the introduction of iTunes Radio (not available in all regions), Apple's new music streaming service, through the update. It also brings iCloud Photos and Videos allowing users to view photos and videos added to their shared photo streams, AirPlay from iCloud allowing users to play videos from iTunes in the cloud without the need to download them and iTunes Music Store that enables users to browse, purchase and play music from the store. The update also brings support for syncing podcasts via an Apple ID through a new Podcasts app.

We'd advise waiting for sometime even if the Apple TV 6.0 update is available for download on your device. In case your device is not functioning you can try connecting it to a Mac/ PC and restoring the software via iTunes. If the device is still unresponsive, you are advised to get in touch with Apple support, as some users have reported getting replacements for their bricked Apple TV units.
