Hot on the heels of Apple's acquisition of Beats Electronics for $3 billion, the headphone manufacturer has launched an upgrade to its ultra-popular headphones Solo HD on Thursday - the Solo 2. Tech publications who've managed to get their hands on one are claiming that it has toned down bass response. The Solo 2 is available for pre-order and is priced at $199 (roughly Rs. 11,800). It is available in a variety of colours including pink, blue, gray, white or red.

Engadget states, "There's still plenty of bass when tunes call for it, but you can also clearly pick up other elements -- things like hi-hats, snares and others all seem to stand out more when compared to previous releases." The website further reports that low-frequency bands aren't completely absent and that they come to life when bass-heavy tracks are played.

On the other hand Wall Street Journal comments about the design, "The new design, which echoes the more expensive, over-ear Beats Studio, is sleeker, with no visible screws and higher quality materials that offer a more premium feel than the predecessor. Acoustics have been improved, too. The ear cups now sit at an angle that's far more comfortable on your ears-especially after hours of wear. The new ear-cup design also blocks out more background noise."

The Internet is rife with speculation that attributes the change in sound signature of the new Beats headphones to Apple acquiring the company, which we believe could be taking it a little too far. It is most likely that Beats engineered the headphones much before the talks of acquisition. We will reserve our judgments about the sound quality until we get our hands on a review unit.

Apple confirmed on Wednesday that it is buying Beats Electronics, a rising music brand, for $3 billion, in a move that will help it play catch-up with rivals that offer subscription-based music services.
