Almost four months after Google released Docs and Sheets for iOS devices, the search engine giant on Monday has finally released its Slides app, an alternative to Microsoft's PowerPoint, thus rounding up its trio of productivity apps for the iPhone and the iPad. Staying true to Google's philosophy, Slides (v1.0.0) is available for free on the App Store now.

Additionally, Google on Wednesday has also updated Docs and Sheets apps for iOS to version 1.1.0, where the two apps can now open, edit and save Microsoft Word documents and Excel files. Furthermore, the Sheets app now has the ability to view charts, insert formulas, and use find/replace.

In its blog, Google notes that with the launch of the Slides app and the updates to Docs and Sheets apps, a user can now work on any file across multiple devices, like desktop, Android, and iOS, seamlessly.

Earlier this year, Google Drive was the company's mobile app for document, presentation and spreadsheet viewing and editing. In May, the company first released the Docs and Sheets standalone apps for Android and iOS, and also announced the Slides app was coming soon. Nearly two months later, Google finally released the Slides app for Android.

We had earlier noticed how the Docs and Sheets apps allow offline editing on-the-go without an Internet connection and that they work independently of the Google Drive app that was already available on both Android and iOS.

It is quite evident that Google is trying to compete with Microsoft who is trying to push cross-platform apps and content syndication using the cloud by releasing its very own apps for iOS. In the end though, it is a win-win situation for the consumers.
