Microsoft has announced that it has rolled out updates for six Windows 8/ Windows RT apps including News, Weather and Maps.

The biggest update has been rolled out to News app, which now supports RSS feeds and offline reading. The updated News app allows users to keep tabs on specific story categories, topics, or news sources as per their need and wants. The News app's app bar has also been improved allowing you to view all of your featured news categories, favourite topics, and even top video clips quite conveniently. Support for RSS feeds in Bing News app will appeal to users who are not too happy about Google shutting down Google Reader. (Also see: Top 5 alternatives to Google Reader)

The Bing Maps app now comes with enhanced features to help you find the best route to reach your destination faster. It provides improved driving, transit and walking directions. The app also notifies about traffic incidents, which includes information about construction and accidents. Of course, not all features may be available in all regions.

With the help of the new Bing Maps App you can also save frequently visited places as favourites or pin them to your start screen.
