Uber, a popular car-for-hire and ride-sharing service, has slashed its UberBlack and UberX fare prices by 25 percent for a limited period in the national capital, New Delhi. The company has also dropped its fares for limited periods in Bangalore (20 percent) and Chennai (25 percent).

The UberX limited period offer is being said to cost the user the same amount charged by an auto-rickshaw. "(Drum-rolls, please!) We just dropped our fares by 25 percent for a limited duration, making Uber almost as cheap as auto-rickshaw fares. In fact, if you use the fare-split feature with a friend or colleague, it's cheaper than auto-rickshaw!," states the company's blog post for New Delhi.

The 25 percent fare cut is available on both UberBlack and UberX services across New Delhi. The post also mentioned that while the old base fares for UberBlack and UberX services were Rs. 95 and Rs. 67 respectively, the new fare after the price cut will be Rs. 71.25 and Rs. 50.25 respectively. Also, users would not need any promo codes to avail the lower-price fares. Notably, the company has not specified till when the price drop is effective.

Uber in Chennai also slashed its UberBlack and UberX fare prices by 25 percent, but users can only avail these reduced fares for eight trips. Also, the offer is valid for two days - October 22 and October 23 - and is clearly aimed at the Diwali festive season. Also, the firm is offering a new service aimed at large events in the region, and details can be found on the company's Chennai blog page.

Last month, Uber expanded its UberX service to Chennai, Mumbai and Pune. The base fare of the UberX service starts from Rs. 50 in Chennai and Mumbai, and Rs. 30 in Pune. UberX would cost Chennai, Mumbai and Pune customers Rs. 14, Rs. 15 and Rs. 12 per kilometre. Pune appears to be the cheapest out of the three cities, with a Rs. 42 minimum fare, followed by Chennai (Rs. 64) and Mumbai (Rs. 65).
