The download size of games has grown substantially in recent years and one of the problems that gamers have to face due to this aspect of gaming is the ever-increasing downloading times. Microsoft's latest firmware update for Xbox One, released on Wednesday, might bring some relief to the gaming console's users as the Redmond-based company has claimed that it has bumped up the downloading speeds by up to 80 percent in some cases.

The company in its release notes for Xbox One 10.0.14393.2152 firmware update has claimed that users with high-speed Internet connections (greater than 100Mbps) should be able to experience up to 80 percent faster download speeds. However, it has clarified that even users having Internet connections with less than 100Mbps should experience a more consistent performance, which will be up to 40 percent faster than before.

"Additional optimisations have also made background downloads more resilient to intermittent connectivity issues. Download speeds will be influenced by network contention within the home and at the ISP level," Microsoft said in its Xbox One update log.

The download speeds are also impacted when users are playing games on the Xbox One console as the games are prioritised over background activities like downloads, Microsoft said. The firmware update also brings along performance improvement for the wireless controller and consistent performance for music streaming apps. It further brings along stability as well as other performance improvements, the company added.
