Our weekly column looks at the men and women who are leading the technology industry, in an attempt to get a glimpse of how they work and which gadgets they're dreaming about.

Sumesh Menon is the founder, U2opia Mobile, a company that uses USSD codes to bring "dumb" phones online. Menon talks to us about the devices he can't do without, and how technology defines his life.

Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
I use the MacBook Pro for work and an iPad Air at home. My phone is an iPhone 5 and I'm looking forward to the 6, soon. Apart from these, I'm very passionate about photography and my Nikon D7000 travels with me, pretty much everywhere. For music, I love the Bose Soundlink.

What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
Spotify, hands down. The app isn't available in India and I downloaded it especially while I was in the US and I'm a very loyal, paying user. It plays almost the entire day, from my home, to the car, to work and even the gym. Uber is another app that I really rely on - it's seamless and a delight to use, every time.

And lastly, Google Analytics for iOS, which launched just a few weeks ago. I use it to track activity on our apps and it's a huge relief to have the app on iOS.

What is one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
My camera and my Mophie battery charger - a must when your phone is the one device you rely on for everything from work mails to music to calls.

What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
The Tesla Model X - I'm in awe of those cars. And a GoPro camera - I'm not sure what I'll use it for, but it's just very cool!

How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Technology is one of the key reasons U2opia Mobile has been able to scale to 40 countries; while nearly the entire team of 150 people sits in Gurgaon. Email, Skype, GoToMeeting and Amazon are the reason why scaling globally became a reality for us.
