Google could soon introduce live, 360-degree videos to YouTube. The Mountain View-based company is said to be in talks with many 360-degree manufacturers to discuss different aspects of live broadcasting 360-degree video content on its platform.

YouTube executives have been meeting with 360-degree camera manufacturers about adding support for live video broadcasts, reports BuzzFeed News. While several camera makers already offer the ability to live stream content, there are several roadblocks that need to be sorted before the video could be fit to be shared on YouTube.

The video quality many of these cameras offers isn't good enough to be published on YouTube. Also, as is the case with 360-degree videos, which stitch together different images taken from various wide-angle lenses, this processing needs to happen in real time. Also, the feature needs to support a range of different type of cameras.

In recent times, Google has shown that it has devised a solution for these obstacles. The GoPro Odyssey, which was developed by Google's JUMP program, gleans footage from different cameras and joins them while uploading them. But whether Google will be able to apply such technology on a large scale remains to be seen.

Whatever the solution YouTube devises for its 360-degree live video service, the Google-owned firm needs to come up with it sooner than later. Facebook is aggressively moving forward in the space of 360-degree videos, live streaming, and video platform in general - a 360-degree video of Mars was posted online by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg earlier this month - and it could lure major publishers and content creators to its platform before YouTube gets a chance.
