Global chip maker Intel today launched a new generation of processors with added features aimed at gamers and media enthusiasts.

The new generation processor, code-named "Ivy Bridge," is the first to be made with a 3-D structure, which allows the chips to process information faster, while consuming less power, Intel said in a statement.

Devices based on the new quad-core range will be available beginning next week from leading system makers. The company, however, did not disclose the price.

The combination of Intel's 3-D tri-gate transistor technology and architectural enhancements help make double the 3-D graphics and HD media processing performance compared with Intel's previous generation of chips, the company said.
