Seagate has announced the launch of two new storage products in the Indian market - Seagate Wireless Plus and Seagate Central.

Seagate Wireless Plus is the successor to company's popular Seagate GoFlex Satellite that offered portable media streaming over Wi-Fi (Internet connection not needed) to mobile devices like laptops, smartphones and tablets. Seagate Wireless Plus comes with improved battery life that is rated at 10 hours of streaming video (compared to 7 hours for GoFlex Satellite), improved range (80 metres compared to 45 metres) and is slightly more compact than its predecessor.

Seagate Wireless Plus comes with DLNA support and supports wireless file upload via mobile or your PC/ Mac. The Seagate Media apps for Android, iOS and Kindle Fire HD have been updated and Seagate has also released a new app for Samsung smart TVs. The iOS app comes with AirPlay support to project video from your iOS device to the big screen wirelessly via Apple TV.

Seagate Wireless Plus supports 3 simultaneous video streams and a total of 8 Wi-Fi connection. It comes with USB 3.0 support.

Seagate Wireless Plus includes 1TB of non-expandable storage (compared to 500GB in SeaGate GoFlex Satellite) and is now available for Rs. 16,000 plus applicable taxes.

"Seagate developed the concept of wireless storage to consumers with the freedom to enjoy their documents, movies, photos and music anywhere in the world, especially when they can't connect to the Internet. Seagate Wireless Plus builds on the success of our first-generation product and takes it even further," said Futoshi Niizuma, Executive Director of Sales for Japan, South Asia, ASEAN and ANZ.

Seagate Central, the other product announced on Tuesday, is designed to be the storage hub of your home network. It connects directly to your router via an Ethernet port (supports USB too) and comes in 2TB, 3TB and 4TB storage options. In addition to offering media streaming capabilities like the Seagate Wireless Plus, Seagate Central offers automatic, continuous backup of all PCs and Macs connected to the network (via Seagate software) and also backups up photos from multiple Facebook accounts to its internal storage.

Talking about the Seagate Central, Niizuma said, "This is the ideal backup solution for the family of today, who increasingly have multiple computers, tablets and smartphones."

Seagate Central comes with support for the same mobile apps and streaming protocols as the Seagate Wireless Plus. You can even upload media from your mobile device straight to Seagate Central. Seagate is also throwing in access to a remote access service that offers password-protected content to your Seagate Central from anywhere in the world using just a browser.

Seagate Central will be available across the country by end of March/ early April in a price range of Rs. 10,500 (2TB storage) and Rs. 17,700 (4TB storage) - taxes additional.
