The iPhone 5 is slated for a November 2 debut in India and Airtel has already started taking pre-orders for the 16GB Black version of Apple's latest flagship smartphone. The device is retailing on the Airtel website for Rs. 45,500. The smartphone is listed as being available from 02.11.2012 to ship within 7-8 days.

There's no mention of the White variant or other capacities of the device as of now.

Telecom operator Aircel has also starting teasing the iPhone 5 on it's website. The site greets customers with a coming soon banner for the iPhone 5 on its homepage, though unlike Airtel, it isn't yet listed for pre-orders. Both Aircel and Airtel were the official launch partners for the iPhone 4S in India last year.

This year, however, Apple has appointed distributors Ingram Micro and Redington for selling the iPhone 5 in India. Last week, Redington had confirmed the iPhone 5 will retail at Rs. 45,500 for 16GB variant, Rs. 52,500 for 32GB and Rs. 59,500 for 64GB, which is not too far from the iPhone 4S pricing, and, thus, unlikely to cause major outrage over pricing that typically accompanies iPhone launch in India.

The iPhone 5 uses the nanoSIM card which is smaller than the microSIM used in many smartphones these days. Operators will start offering nano SIM cards for the iPhone 5 across the country.

A Vodafone spokesperson confirmed to NDTV Gadgets that they have nano-SIMs ready in stock, whenever Apple decides to launch iPhone 5 in the country.

A quick specs recap, the iPhone 5 sports an aluminium body and features a 4-inch Retina display screen with a 1136x640 resolution, 8MP iSight camera with LED flash and a 1.2MP front camera.

The smartphone has Black and White variants in 16/32/64 GB capacities and it is powered by an A6 chip. It comes with iOS 6. Apple has also introduced a new Lightning connector on the device replacing the earlier universal dock connector.
