Smartphones like iPhones may not be well equipped to protect the owner's privacy as a woman in China found out the hard way.

Photos and other data deleted from these phones can be easily recovered using a software, the Shanghai Daily reported Friday.

A twenty-year-old woman was recently shocked to find her naked photos at a store in Ningbo city in eastern China. She had taken her phone to the store for repairs.

Her friend said the technician copied the photos from her iPhone onto one of the store's sample phones.

The incident has sparked a heated online debate on privacy of iPhone users.
