  • 'Face Unlock Assistive Lighting' option to enhances facial recognition
  • Update also includes December Android security patch

OnePlus 5T has started receiving OxygenOS 4.7.6 as the new software update. Rolling out as an incremental over-the-air (OTA) update, the new version brings assistive lighting for the preloaded Face Unlock feature and includes various performance improvements and fixes, as well as the December Android security patch.

Amongst other changes with the OxygenOS 4.7.6 update, the addition of assistive lighting for the Face Unlock feature is the most significant development. The OnePlus 5T was already taking on some of the competitive Android models with its advanced facial recognition technology. Shenzhen-based OnePlus even lately planned to bring an identical experience to its last year's OnePlus 5 to rival Apple's iPhone X that was debuted earlier this year with facial recognition-enabled Face ID. And now, the new tweak is seemingly designed to make that compelling feature better than before.

There is an option called Face Unlock Assistive Lighting under the Face Unlock settings. Once enabled, the new option lights up the screen to make your face visible to the front camera of the OnePlus 5T. This helps to easily unlock the smartphone even in low light environments.

Apart from the assistive lighting addition, as per the changelog provided by OnePlus in an official forum post, the OxygenOS 4.7.6 update for the OnePlus 5T comes with stability improvements and various performance enhancements for third-party camera apps. There are also clarity improvements for self-portrait shots under low light. Similarly, the update brings improvements to expanded screenshot and Wi-Fi display. There is additionally the December Android security patch.

The OxygenOS 4.7.6 update is rolling out in batches, though you can check its arrival on your OnePlus 5T manually. For this, you need to go to Settings > System updates.

Earlier today, it was spotted that OnePlus teased the first open beta of Android 8.0 Oreo-based OxygenOS 5.0 for the OnePlus 5T. The company already released the latest Android experience for its previous-generation flagships, including the OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T, and OnePlus 5. However, the newest model still runs Android Nougat, and a public update to Android Oreo is due for 2018.
