At the Intel Keynote, Acer unveiled their latest tablet the ‘Iconia M500' running the ‘MeeGo' operating system. Similar to the Iconia A500 Honeycomb tablet, the M500 boasts of a 10.1inch 1280x800 display. While we don't have any information on the internals of the device, its very presence at the Intel booth confirms the existence of an Intel Atom processor at its heart

Is it a Pad? Is it a Phone? No, it's a Padfone! The Asus PadFone, which was unveiled at Computex 2011, is an amalgamation of a phone and a tablet. It has a phone unit, which cozily cuddles in the tablet portion. The phone basically powers the tablet. The idea behind it is simple - if the user needs a larger screen he/she will attach it inside the tablet and if there is a need for a smaller device, it will be the phone. Pretty neat?

Running parallel to Computex was the D9 conference at which Microsoft showcased the next generation of Windows. Coinciding with the sneak peak trailer, a number of chipmakers including Qualcomm, NVidia and Texas Instruments announced Windows 8 based tablets. For the first time, Microsoft will run their flagship operating system on ARM chipsets next to Intel's hardware. This is an event in itself. More importantly, Windows 8 presented the biggest jump in operating system user interface by employing the ‘Windows Phone' like tile interface while maintaining legacy support for older Windows software. Ziii Labs, an ODM (Original design manufacturer) for many a major manufactures, also showed design for their 7-inch and 10-inch tablets the Jaguar. The Jaguars will be powered by Android 3.0 honeycomb, but it remains to be seen if these tablets will hit production or will remain design prototypes for manufacturers
