The Google Android event may not be happening, but news related to the company's Nexus 7 tablet continues to pour in. Droid Life reports that Office Depot stores across the US have put up the 32GB version of the tablet up for display priced at $249. Moreover, the 16GB version is reportedly being sold for $50 less at $199.

The office supply chain has limited devices in stock so those wanting to upgrade will have to call the store to find out. Earlier reports from the UK suggested that certain retailers were cutting the price of the 16GB Nexus 7, which sparked rumours of a 32GB to be unveiled soon.

Android Police reported that the tablet showed up on Staples Advantage, a business retailing site listed for $248.37. More recently, online retailer Gamestop also listed the 16GB variant for $199.

Last week we saw Google's 8GB version of the Nexus 7 going out of stock on the Google Play Store, which possibly hinted at a price cut for the 16GB version and paving way for the 32GB configuration of the tablet. However, the 16GB Nexus 7 also now appears to have been pulled out of the Play store. it is now listed as "COMING SOON" asking users to sign up to be notified via email for the tablet's availability.

Earlier this week, Apple announced it's 7.9-inch iPad mini that directly takes  on the search giant's tablet. If Google decides to discontinue the 8GB version allowing space for the 16 and 32GB variants, it wouldn't be wrong, considering Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and the recently launched iPad mini start at 16GB (Also see: Apple iPad mini vs Amazon Kindle Fire HD, Google Nexus 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0)

Google was expected to unveil a 3G version of the Nexus 7 along with the 32GB version at an event in New York on October 29. A 10-inch Nexus tablet from Samsung was also on the cards and so was the Nexus 4 smartphone from LG.

With Google's event on hold for now, we'd expect to see the 32GB version land in Google Play sometime soon. Also, whether or not other retailers will follow suit, is something we'll keep a close eye on, before Google decides to officially announce the tablet's variants.
