Xiaomi has kicked off its much-awaited Smarter Living event in Bengaluru, with Raghu Reddy, Head of Categories at Xiaomi India, started with the Mi Band 3 announcement. The new Mi Band 3 comes with a 110mAh battery with up to 20-day battery life (60 percent bigger than the on its predecessor), 0.78-inch OLED screen (85 percent larger than Mi Band 2), and delivers WhatsApp messages as well as 3-day weather forecast. It has a touch button on the screen that offers different functions, such as returning to main menu, declining calls, etc. Like the previous Mi Band, this new model sports a hypoallergenic silicone strap (in Orange, Blue, Black colours) and is certified for water-resistance up to 50-metres. Of course, the new Mi Band 3 allows users to track their heart rate, steps taken, sleep, and activity level -- all accessible from the Mi Fit app. The Mi Band 3 price in India has been set as Rs. 1,999, and goes on sale starting tomorrow at 12pm via Amazon.in and Mi.com.

Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2S is the next product to be unveiled at the event, and features an OLED display, smarter home integration, and 'precise' air purification. Featuring auto brightness adjustment, the OLED display provides information such as PM2.5 levels in the house, temperature and humidity levels. The higher-precision laser sensor can detect particulate matter 0.3-micron in size, which is filtered with the 360-degree triple layer filter. It has an effective cleaning range of 226-398 sq ft, and works with Alexa and Google Assistant as well as the Mi Home app. It is priced at Rs. 8,999. The company also launched smart luggage and internet-connected CCTV at the event.

Mi TV was the biggest product unveiled at the event, with 32-inch, 49-inch, and 55-inch displays. The three TVs are built on Android TV platform and have the Patchwall UI to learn user behaviour. Amazon Prime Video will be coming to the platform soon - first heading to the new Mi TV models, and later to the first three models. Jio Cinema, Hooq, and Eros Now are also coming to Patchwall. Another major new feature is voice search for Mi TVs, with Xiaomi partnering with Google to enable voice search in India. Users can simply tap the dedicated Google Voice button on the Bluetooth-enabled TV remote. As for the specifications, the new Mi TVs have an Amlogic 64-bit quad-core processor, seventh-gen imaging processor, up to 4K video at 60fps, upscaling technology, 3 HDMI ports, and 2 USB ports. 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage are available on the Mi LED TV 4 Pro with 55-inch (4K resolution) and 49-inch (full-HD resolution) displays, and 1GB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage on the 32-inch (HD resolution) display. The Mi TV 4 Pro price in India for the 55-inch model has been set as Rs. 49,999, while the 49-inch and 32-inch models cost Rs. 29,999 and Rs. 14,999, respectively.

Xiaomi sent out media invites for this ecosystem-focused event earlier this month and has since been teasing the launch of numerous products at this event. As per the teasers, we can expect the Chinese technology giant to unveil the Mi Band 3, a new Mi TV model, a smart camera, and perhaps an air purifier at the Smarter Living event. The Xiaomi event was scheduled to start at 12pm today, but the live stream has not yet started. No smartphone is expected at the Xiaomi event today. The company has confirmed in a tweet that it will be launching as many as seven products.

The Mi Band 3 is confirmed to launch in India at the event today exclusively on Amazon India, as per a teaser on the e-tailer's website. The landing page shows a Coming Soon banner and provides a Notify Me button for interested users. To recall, the Mi Band 3 sports a 0.78-inch capacitive OLED display panel, which is substantially larger than the Mi Band 2's 0.42-inch OLED panel. The Mi Band 3 features a heart-rate sensor as well as a triaxial acceleration sensor.

While the regular variant of the Mi Band 3 is priced at CNY 169 (roughly Rs. 1,800) in China, the NFC-enabled model comes in at CNY 199 (about Rs. 2,100). The Mi Band 2 was launched in India last year at a price of Rs. 1,999, although Mi Band 3 price in India is not known yet.

Apart from the Mi Band 3, some other smart home products were also teased by Xiaomi. An eye icon was teased suggesting something around a 360-degree smart home camera, possibly for surveillance. A popcorn icon was also shown that points towards the launch of yet another Mi TV variant, and an "air" icon could represent the launch of another product in the company's home or car air purification segment. Lastly, a location icon was also teased however the product associated with it remains ambiguous. We speculate that this could be some sort of location-tracking GPS device.
