Microsoft has entered the battleground of browsers with its new revamped Edge browser. In its latest blow, the Redmond-based company has launched a video test comparing the battery life of laptops running Edge, with the battery life of laptops running other browsers like Chrome, Firefox, and even Opera.

The Redmond giant claims that the Edge delivers 17-70 percent more battery life than the competition. To do the test, Microsoft ran the Edge, Chrome, Firefox, and Opera browsers on the Surface Book. The Chrome browser was the first to lose, not lasting more than about 4 hours 20 minutes approximately. The second one to go kaput wass the Mozilla Firefox, which lasted for a little more than 5 hours approximately. Opera, with its new battery saver feature also stayed in the game for 6 hours 18 minutes before giving up. However, the video test pits the Edge browser as the winner, with it lasting up to 7 hours 22 minutes before draining the battery of the Surface Book.

Of course, the catch is that only Windows 10 devices with the Edge browser get their low power efficiency. To put the test in some perspective, The Microsoft Edge browser lasts 3 hours more than Chrome - i.e. almost one movie longer - or capable of providing up to 70 percent more battery life. It is worth noting, however, that this test has been taken under the most ideal conditions, and results will also vary with different Windows 10 devices.

Microsoft further states in its blog, "We continue to focus on power efficiency with regular updates to Windows 10, and the Windows 10 Anniversary Update will include even more power-saving improvements, using fewer CPU cycles, consuming less memory, and minimising the impact of background activity and peripheral content like Flash advertisements. These improvements will build on the efficiency demonstrated below to make sure you can stay online longer with Microsoft Edge."
