Facebook on Monday released an update for its Paper app for iOS, which takes the app version from 1.1 to 1.2.

The updated Paper app is now available on the App Store and brings a slew of new features. One of the highlight additions to the app is the new Trending section that shows trending topics that people are talking about right now.

Notably, the social giant introduced 'Trending' topics section to its News Feed in January. Unlike Twitter, which simply lists topics, Facebook's trending section explains why a particular topic is trending.

Some of the other new features introduced in the new Paper app include the ability to edit the profile pic and cover photo, which now allows changing, resizing, and cropping; the ability to view tags in photos by tapping the arrow, and to use tilt/ zoom to view photos.

The new Paper app version 1.2 for iOS also brings the new 'Mention' feature, which now enables users to mention or tag friends in posts and comments, and now users can tap-and-hold text to copy it from a post they are reading. Another new addition to the app is the control over posts, which now allows users to choose the specific audience for their posts, such as public or friends.

Facebook announced the update on the Paper app's official blog, and said, "Today [Monday] you can find Paper version 1.2 in the App Store, and with it comes a bunch of new ways to personalize your experience and discover great content on Paper. Be sure to update Paper today to get all of this release's features."

The Flipboard-style news reader app for iOS users was launched in January and is also the first of the new standalone apps from Facebook.

The Facebook Paper app in many ways can replace the regular Facebook app, as it allows users to browse and interact with posts/ stories from their News Feed - the primary function of the regular app - in a brand new 'immersive design and fullscreen, distraction-free layout'.
