The updated LastPass app for Android (version 3.0) has added support for the biometric authentication via the Samsung Galaxy S5's fingerprint sensor.

The password-management app, once logged in via a fingerprint swipe gesture from the Galaxy S5, would give users access to all their stored password information, and be able to easily insert the codes where required.

The addition of LastPass support for the fingerprint scanning system would simplify for Galaxy S5 users the cumbersome process of recalling and inserting different passwords or PINs for every service, whether in separate apps or via the browser (several different browsers supported).

It has been noted that the Samsung Galaxy S5 integration via the LastPass app for Android is only available via the app's Premium service, which costs $1 (about Rs. 60) per month. The application is available to download from Google Play.

Earlier this month, PayPal, a popular electronic payment solution, announced that its certified fingerprint-based authentication system for the Galaxy S5 is now available in 25 countries. With the PayPal certification for the Samsung Galaxy S5 (Pictures| Review), users can authorise payments and perform other transactions via their PayPal accounts by simply swiping their finger on the Galaxy S5's home button, which features the fingerprint sensor.

The company also announced the release of the PayPal app for the Gear 2 and Gear Fit wearable devices. The app will give information on balance check, payment notifications and saving offers from local businesses to the users.

The introduction of this new fingerprint-based transaction technology is said to eliminate the cumbersome process of logging in via typing usernames and passwords by the users. Moreover, the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone is also said to be the first handset to incorporate FIDO authentication, a standard set by an alliance of companies such as Google, Microsoft, MasterCard and Lenovo.
