After introducing the technology last year, Microsoft on Thursday launched its Hyperlapse technology as apps for various platforms. The first-person time-lapse video making app has been made available for Windows Phone, preview versions for Android and Windows, apart from a version for Microsoft Azure Media Services.

The app is not to be confused with iOS app with the same name by Instagram, which is just a time-lapse video making app. Microsoft's Hyperlapse Mobile app is meant to not just create time-lapse videos but also remove the jitter and shake associated with first-person time-lapse videos, using specialised algorithms developed by the Microsoft Interactive Visual Media Group.

For general users, the Microsoft Hyperlapse app lets them save videos in multiple speeds ranging from 1x to 32x and share them via social media or emails. The app can additionally create Hyperlapse videos from content imported from the device's storage. Selfie time-lapse videos can also be created. The user interface is very simple looking and without any editing features. Once video is rendered, the app asks users to save it and share it. The video can be saved at different speeds.

It has been added that handsets with 512MB RAM would not be able to capture videos at HD resolution.

As for Android, the Hyperlapse Mobile app is compatible with devices running Android 4.4 KitKat and later versions. However, the Android users would need to join a Google+ community to get the preview version of the app. As per the community page, the app currently supports Samsung Galaxy S5, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy Note 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, HTC One (M8), One M9, and Sony Xperia Z3.

Microsoft's Hyperlapse Pro Preview has also been launched for professionals and enthusiasts who want a Windows desktop application to create Hyperlapse videos taken from GoPro cameras or any other professional device. The application comes with support for different video speeds ranging from 2x to 25x. The preview is available for Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1. A minimum of 4GB of RAM, OpenGL 2.0 or newer version would also be required.

Hyperlapse for Azure Media Services as per Microsoft is the "integration of Microsoft Hyperlapse technology into a media processor on Azure Media Services." The service is aimed for developers so they can utilise the Hyperlapse technology in their apps. Details of the service can be viewed on Microsoft's dedicated Web page.
