Popcorn Time, the simplest and best-looking Bittorrent client for movies and TV shows, has had a tumultuous journey. After the app launched, it had a surge in popularity, before the creators took their client down because of pressure from "an old fashioned industry". The Popcorn Time project was picked up again by the community, and Time4Popcorn has emerged as the most popular fork.

On Wednesday, Time4Popcorn announced AirPlay support, making it possible to stream content to your Apple TV. What's more, the developers are also working on an iOS app - for jailbroken devices, naturally.

Popcorn Time is important because of how simple it makes piracy. It uses a graphical interface similar to streaming services like Netflix, and lets you watch and download movies and TV shows with a simple click.

Earlier this year, the Time4Popcorn team had also launched an Android app in an update which had also added TV shows to the content on offer. The app was pulled from Google Play, but is available for download from the group's website.

This month, the team also added Chromecast support to the Popcorn Time app, making it possible to stream videos running on your phone to your television easily. Other upgrades to the app included automatic updates; native UI; faster download of movies/TV shows; major bug fixes, and support for more devices. In a blog post, the team also discussed adding built-in VPN support.
