Nikon on Thursday announced that it had launched its latest DSLR camera - the Nikon D810 - in India. The camera offers features like the ability to shoot full-HD, a full-frame 36.3-megapixel CMOS sensor, and a wide ISO range to give photographers and filmmakers the ability to shoot under varied lighting conditions. The Nikon D810 will be available across India starting last week of July, but the company has not detailed the price yet.

The Nikon D810 has been billed for its video shooting capabilities. It features support for recording 1080p movies at 60 fps (frames per second). The readout method of the image sensor has been optimised to produce better visuals. The HDMI output also allows for external recording. Also featured on the D810 is a dual format recording option which includes the full-frame (FX) format and the cropped-format. Center-weighted and highlight-weighted metring allow users to achieve stable metring under changing light conditions. The highlight weighted metring detects the brightest areas of the scene and determines automatically the exposure.

The D810 also features the new Expeed 4 image-processing engine. The sensor has been designed without an optical low-pass filter to ensure images are rich. ISO sensitivity ranges from 64 to 12,800. It can be decreased to Lo1 (ISO 32 equivalent) and increased to HI 2 (ISO 51,200) equivalent. There is a 51-point autofocus system, as well as a new group area AF that helps avoid unintentional background focussing. The optical viewfinder also has a new prism coating that enables enhanced light transmission ratio, colouration and a full frame coverage during shots. The display has an organic EL display element, which Nikon claims will provide a clear display.

In addition, Nikon says that the "split-screen display zoom" function enlarges two points on the same horizontal line simultaneously to provide accurate image levelling. Hiroshi Takashina, Managing Director, Nikon India said, "Nikon has a legacy of designing products that achieve highest standards of quality, detailing, experience and performance. With today's announcement we are certain to set new benchmarks in the world of photography and video shooting as the magnificent 36.3 megapixel count of new Nikon D810 combines exceptional imaging technology and innovative features to deliver an unparalleled shooting experience."
