  • Fortnite v5.40 was set to roll out Tuesday
  • It will now be released Thursday
  • Week 9 challenges delayed to Friday

Epic Games has delayed the release of its weekly Fortnite update and challenges due to a technical problem.

On Tuesday, the official Twitter account of Fortnite posted: “Due to the discovery of a critical controller issue, we’ll be moving the release of v5.40 and High Stakes to Thursday September 6.”

Usually, the weekly Fortnite update goes live on Tuesday, but Epic Games has pushed back the rollout of patch v5.40 to Thursday, though it didn’t detail what the specific issue was.

Hence, it’s unclear if this has anything to do with the improvements and bug fixes related to aiming on controllers mentioned by the Fortnite team in its latest development-oriented blog post last week.

In a follow-up tweet, Epic Games added: “This also means that Challenge unlocks will be pushed back a day from Thursday 9/6 to Friday 9/7.”

Currently in its fifth season, Fortnite Battle Royale drops new weekly challenges for its players to keep them coming back to the game. The Week 9 challenges will arrive a day later though.

Fortnite v5.40 is also set to bring performance improvements on the Nintendo Switch, with Epic Games having worked with Nintendo to address issues. A temporary fix involves installing Fortnite on a microSD card, Epic Games said.
