In a surprise move, popular PC game digital distribution platform Steam is having it's first Lunar New Year Sale. It's a celebration of the Year of the Monkey in the Chinese zodiac with a host of discounts.

While earlier Steam Sales have had Easter eggs and riddles to solve, the Steam Lunar Sale has it's own unique take on interactivity above and beyond the usual set of discounts.

There's a question in the style of Choose Your Own Adventure books from the home page onwards. Selecting an option from the likes of "pirates" or "ninjas" and driving or swimming results in you being taken to a page which has games from either theme such as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag or Mark of the Ninja.

Much like every sale since last year's Black Friday blowout, there won't be daily or flash deals. Every game on discount will stay at the same price during the sale with Valve curating a different set each day. This is something that's worked to the advantage of game developers and publishers if leaked Steam Winter Sale statistics are to be believed.

A sale for the Lunar New Year appears to be a move from Valve to take China seriously. Shrewd considering that the predominantly PC market has seen the PS4 and Xbox One available officially since last year. It also opens the doors for sales based on local festivals other emerging territories for the Seattle-based company such as Russia and India.
