Our weekly column looks at the men and women who are leading the technology industry, in a bid to get a glimpse of how they work, and which gadgets they're dreaming about. This week, Subroto Das, Director - South Asia and India, WD, tells us what devices he can't do without, and how technology defines his life.

Describe your technology setup - what computer/ phone/ tablet/ camera/ gaming console/ other gadgets do you use?
I use a Samsung Galaxy S4, and a Sony Vaio Laptop. My laptop is employed for work and my Android is solely for entertainment. I play games on that, stream movies on that from WD My Cloud, read on that etc. At WD, we keep coming up with new and cool products and I love to try them out too.

What are three apps (mobile/ tablet or PC/ Mac) you couldn't live without?
One app that I find very useful is NDTV News app. I get to know what is happening in the country and around the world on my handheld gadget.

I like taking pictures, watching sitcoms and movies when I travel. With my phone and tablet having limited storage, I rely on the WD My Cloud, and need the My Cloud app to access the content stored there.

These days who doesn't use WhatsApp? How can I be an exception?

What is one gadget (other than your phone) you never travel without?
I sometimes live out of a suitcase and that excites me. My job allows me to travel a lot-go to far flung places in India as well as abroad. Technology has become extremely relevant at places that we usually don't consider actively. Its adoption has been unprecedented and therefore I travel frequently to the so-called Tier 2 and 3 cities as well. It's difficult to travel without my laptop in that situation..

What is your dream gadget/ technology setup?
We have been talking about integration, convergence, multi-functionality and these are fascinating concepts. Single device performing every imaginable thing! No check lists, no hassles, not so many gadgets-just one gadget and you are done. I would like to own an all-in-one device with the best features of a smartphone, computing power of a laptop, my credit/ debit personal IDs, frequent flyers' points, my home and car keys and every small thing that I carry with myself. So much less weight to carry in my backpack!

How has technology changed the way in which you work?
Technology has completely changed today's work environments. We, at WD, use Cisco WebEx meetings app which lets us work remotely yet collaborate in real time. Telecommuting has replaced physical commuting. It saves fuel too!
